An unlinked mention is a reference to a law firm or attorney on another website that does not include a link back to the firm's site. Because the publisher already knows and cites the firm, these mentions are often the easiest backlinks to earn.
Why it matters for law firms
Attorneys are regularly quoted in news stories, featured in bar publications and named in event listings without a link. Politely asking for a link turns existing recognition into ranking value with very little effort.

An employment attorney is quoted in a local business journal about new overtime rules, but the article only names the firm. A short email to the editor results in a link to the attorney's bio page.
